Prevalence and risk factors of abnormal left ventricular geometrical patterns in untreated hypertensive patients Running Title: Abnormal LV geometrical patterns

چکیده
Objective To investigate the prevalence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and different patterns of left ventricular (LV) geometry and their risk factors in untreated hypertension population in China. Methods A total of 9,286 participants (5167 males and 4119 females) were recruited from two Chinese communities. The LV geometry was classified into four patterns: normal; abnormal, defined as concentric remodeling;concentric or eccentric hypertrophy based on the values of left ventricular mass index (LVMI) and relative wall thickness(RWT). Logistic regression model was applied to determine the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of the risk factors of left ventricular hypertrophy. Results The prevalence of LVH was 20.2% in untreated hypertensive patients, much higher in women (30.8%) than in men (14.2%) (P<0.01). The prevalence of LV geometrical patterns was 34.9%, 11.1%, 9.1% for concentric remodeling, concentric and eccentric hypertrophy, respectively. After adjustment by using Logistic regression model, the risk factors for LVH and abnormal LV geometry were age, female, systolic blood pressure, and body mass index. And low high density lipoprotein maybe a negative factor. Conclusions The prevalence of LVH and abnormal LV geometric patterns was higher in women than in men and increased with age. It is crucial to improve the awareness rate of hypertension and control the risk factors of CV complications in untreated hypertensive population.

Prevalence and risk factors of abnormal left ventricular geometrical patterns in untreated hypertensive patients
BACKGROUND The various prevalence of LVH and abnormal LV geometry have been reported in different populations. So far, only a few reports are available on the prevalence of LV geometric patterns in a large Chinese untreated hypertensive population. METHODS A total of 9,286 subjects (5167 men and 4119 women) completed the survey and 1641 untreated hypertensive patients (1044 males and 597 fema...
متن کاملAssessment of left ventricular geometrical patterns and function among hypertensive patients at a tertiary hospital, Northern Tanzania
BACKGROUND With hypertension, the cardiovascular system changes to adapt to the varying neuro-humoral and hemodynamic changes and this may lead to the development of different left ventricular geometric patterns, each carrying a different risk profile for major adverse cardiovascular events. METHODS Using a consecutive sampling technique, a cross-sectional, prospective, hospital based study w...
متن کاملThe role of oral dipyridamole stress gated SPECT in assessing the response of the left ventricle to stress: Re-evaluation of an old method
Introduction: We aimed to assess whether the vasodilator effect of oral dipyridamole on the left ventricular systolic function in patients with suspected CAD is different from that of intravenous (IV) dipyridamole using Tc-99m MIBI myocardial perfusion gated SPECT. Methods: Eighty-nine patients (17 M / 72 W; 61 ± 10 years) were enrolled in this study. The patients underwent a dipyridamole stre...
متن کاملEchocardiographic Assessment of Left Ventricular Geometric Patterns in Hypertensive Patients in Nigeria
Left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy is an important predictor of morbidity and mortality in hypertensive patients, and its geometric pattern is a useful determinant of severity and prognosis of heart disease. Studies on LV geometric pattern involving large number of Nigerian hypertensive patients are limited. We examined the LV geometric pattern in hypertensive patients seen in our echocardiograp...
متن کاملGeometrical and functional changes of left heart in adults with prehypertension and hypertension: a cross-sectional study from China
BACKGROUND Studies regarding the association between prehypertension and the structual changes of left heart are scanty. However, which type of the geometrical change of left heart is predominated one in prehypertension and hypertension is controversial. It is therefore important to investigate geometrical and functional changes of left heart in adults with prehypertension and hypertension beca...
